If you do not have any supplies at all, then you will need the microscope, as well as sample prep supplies. In this list, these sample prep supplies are offered by Hiwassee Products and Home Science Tools. A microscope camera is recommended if you plan to take any photos or video of what you see, or share any live microscopy with a group.
At this time, the recommended microscopes and other supplies are only available from different suppliers, so multiple purchases will be required (sorry about that). If you already have microscopes or other materials, then you are welcome to pick and choose as needed.

OPTION 1: STANDARD PACKAGE
The standard package includes a microscope that will provide good quality imaging for soil/compost assessment purposes at a relatively low cost. The microscope camera is optional, but needed if you plan to take photos or video, or share any live microscopy with a group.

The Advanced package includes a microscope that will provide better image quality, and better camera quality, with better photos and video.

The above options are great and we did our best to make the process of sourcing the necessary tools to get started as streamlined as possible. pH/EC METERS:
We have additional coupon code for 10% off available for Hanna Instruments, which specializes in pH and Electrical Conductivity (EC) meters. pH measures how acidic or basic your soil is, which impacts nutrient availability to plants.
EC measures the cation content in your soil solution, which is primarily salt, but also includes other nutrients, so is both an assessment of salt and fertility. Too low EC can indicate insufficient nutrients, and too high EC can indicate too high salt and nutrient content, which will inhibit germination and plant health. Here are a few recommended packages.
